Synopsis

The man who inspired that hope becomes something else entirely. Báthory's hunger for military glory turns him into a tyrant; his closest ally Bethlen ends up his deadliest enemy, and armies from across the region — Ottomans, Wallachians, Poles, Cossacks — march on Transylvania because of his recklessness. The series earns its length by staying close to the political machinery that ground a decent ruler into a catastrophe, and it refuses easy villains.
