The Getaway King

The Getaway King (Najmro, 2021) is a Polish crime comedy directed by Mateusz Rakowicz, available to watch online on iFILM. Dawid Ogrodnik plays Zdzisław Najmrodzki — an actual man who became the most-wanted car thief in communist Poland and, against all odds, a folk hero.

Through the 1980s, Najmrodzki stole cars at a relentless pace, fled police chases by driving in reverse at over 120 km/h, and broke out of prison every time they managed to catch him. He never once hurt anyone, which turned the whole chase into a running national joke at the authorities' expense.
