Synopsis
The Premise (2021) is a five-episode anthology from FX on Hulu that you can watch online on iFILM. B.J. Novak — writer-producer of The Office — created the show and directed several episodes. Each installment is a standalone story with its own cast, built around a charged moral question pulled from the present day. Tagline: "An anthology of now."
One episode follows a man who possesses footage of a famous tragedy and has to decide what to do with it. Others probe social-media jealousy, the ethics of self-sacrifice for clout, and surveillance in relationships. Ben Platt, Ayo Edebiri, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jon Bernthal each appear for exactly one story. The tone is comedy-drama, but the setups are genuinely uncomfortable — the kind where a laugh arrives just before something you can't laugh off. Stream The Premise online on iFILM.
