Sherlock Holmes (Season 1)

"Sherlock Holmes" (2013) is a Russian-made detective series you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and set in Victorian-era London. Igor Petrenko plays a young, physically imposing Holmes; Andrei Panin — in one of his final screen roles — plays Dr. Watson as a battle-hardened army doctor fresh from Afghanistan.

This version swings harder and faster than most Conan Doyle adaptations. Watson is a skilled boxer who can handle multiple opponents bare-handed; Holmes is 27, sharp-tempered, and nowhere near settled into the pipe-and-armchair persona. The two investigate crimes across London while Watson chronicles their cases for the Morning Chronicle — presenting, as the show has it, the "real" version of events that the published stories embellished.
