Synopsis
Dostoevsky (2011) is a Russian biographical mini-series you can watch online on iFILM. Yevgeny Mironov plays Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky across thirty turbulent years — from the frozen square in December 1849 where the Petrashevsky Circle waited to be shot, to the final lines of The Brothers Karamazov in 1879. Director Vladimir Khotinenko built the series around the writer's contradictions, not his monument.
The Omsk prison camp, years of Siberian exile, a consuming affair with Apollinaria Suslova, the death of his first wife — all of it before he turned forty-five. Then editorial debt, the roulette tables he could not quit, and Anna Snitkina, the stenographer who stepped into the wreck of his finances and kept him writing. Chulpan Khamatova, Alexander Domogarov, Dmitry Pevtsov, and Yuri Stepanov round out a remarkable cast.
This is a portrait of a man for whom suffering was never a literary device — it was the raw material. For viewers curious how Dostoevsky's biography fed into Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and the Karamazovs, the series gives a clear, unflinching answer. Watch Dostoevsky (2011) online on iFILM.
