Officially neutral Sweden stayed out of the war and preferred not to look too closely at what was happening elsewhere. Engzell used that neutral status as leverage — pushing visas, transit permits, and official correspondence through a bureaucratic machine built to stay uninvolved, buying escape routes for Jewish families who had run out of options. The story is true and largely forgotten outside Sweden. Olsson and Ahlbeck tell it without swelling music or grand speeches, which turns out to be exactly the right approach.
