Synopsis

The kind-hearted Doctor Aybolit treats animals for free while the pirate villain Barmaley schemes from behind bars. When his pirate crew causes chaos across Africa — spreading disease, poisoning animals, and ordering a crocodile to swallow the sun itself — Aybolit sets out with his companions: the parrot Karudu, the dog Avva, and the owl Bumbo. Cherkassky pairs Chukovsky's absurdist humour with jazz-inflected musical numbers that feel completely timeless, and the sharp comic timing holds up across every generation that has grown up with it.
