Synopsis
"Pippi Longstocking" (Pippi Långstrump, 1969) is a Swedish children's series you can watch online on iFILM. Based on Astrid Lindgren's books and directed by Olle Hellbom, the 13-episode series follows nine-year-old Pippi — the world's strongest girl, the owner of a suitcase full of gold coins, and the happy resident of Villekulla Cottage. No parents, no bedtime, no cod liver oil.
Her neighbours Tommy and Annika have never met anyone like her. Pippi wanders into trouble without looking for it, handles bullies and policemen and school headmasters with equal ease, and runs her household entirely on her own terms. Inger Nilsson plays her not as a cartoon but as a child with a real inner world — which is why the performance reads as genuine more than fifty years later.
