Synopsis

The year is 1904, Manchuria — the Russo-Japanese War. Sergei Karenin, son of that Anna, runs a field hospital retreating with the Russian army. Among the wounded he finds the aging Count Alexei Vronsky — the man his mother left her husband for before she stepped in front of a train three decades ago. That night Sergei comes to Vronsky's cot with a single question: why. The count starts talking, and the whole story of Anna unfolds from his perspective.
