Synopsis
The Woman in White (2018) is a BBC miniseries you can watch online on iFILM. Director Carl Tibbetts adapted Wilkie Collins' 1859 novel — one of the earliest detective stories in English literature — with Jessie Buckley, Olivia Vinall, Ben Hardy, and Charles Dance leading the cast.
Drawing tutor Walter Hartright arrives at Limmeridge House to teach two half-sisters, Laura and Marian. Before he reaches the estate, a chance encounter on a night road outside London stays with him: a frightened woman dressed entirely in white, who vanishes before he can learn anything. Laura bears an unsettling resemblance to her. As Laura's engagement to Sir Percival Glyde — Charles Dance, measured and quietly menacing — draws closer, the conspiracy around both women tightens.
Collins built his story on documents, testimonies, and forged identities rather than action, and this BBC version keeps that architecture intact. The danger here is paperwork — wills, certificates, the legal machinery of Victorian marriage — and Jessie Buckley makes Laura's helplessness feel specific and real.
