Synopsis
Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) is a classic American anthology series you can watch online on iFILM — a mystery and thriller show that ran on CBS and NBC from 1955 to 1962 in half-hour installments. Each episode tells a self-contained story: a perfect crime that isn't, a domestic arrangement with a hidden edge, a twist that reframes everything thirty seconds before the credits. Hitchcock bookended every episode in person, delivering deadpan commentary dripping with black humor.
He directed around twenty of the more than two hundred episodes himself; Robert Altman, Ida Lupino, and Arthur Hiller were among those who handled the rest. Guest casts pulled from Hollywood's working pool — Jeanne Moreau, Peter Lorre, and many who would become stars. The show expanded to an hour-long format in 1962 under the title The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, running until 1965.
What makes it hold up is the tone: the stories trust the audience to catch the irony. Villains are mundane, moral resolutions are unreliable, and Hitchcock's intros frame the darkness as dark comedy. Stream every season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents online on iFILM.
