Synopsis
Unorthodox (2020) is a German-language Netflix miniseries you can watch online on iFILM. A young Hasidic woman walks away from her arranged marriage in Brooklyn's Satmar community and lands alone in Berlin — no German, no plan, no safety net.
In Berlin, Esty (Shira Haas) stumbles into a conservatory music group: secular, loud, free in ways she has never been permitted to be. The series cuts between that new life and the world she left behind — a Williamsburg neighborhood where a woman's every hour is shaped by religious law, from the length of her sleeves to the terms of her marriage bed. Director Maria Schrader refuses to rush either timeline toward a verdict.
