Unorthodox (2020), Season 1 — a four-part Netflix drama you can watch online on iFILM. Shira Haas plays Esty, a young Hasidic woman from Brooklyn who walks out of her marriage and catches a flight to Berlin with almost nothing.
The city receives her without rules or timelines. A circle of musicians takes her in, and for the first time Esty gets to decide ordinary things — what to eat, who to be. Back home, her husband Yanky and his cousin Moishe cross the Atlantic to bring her back. Moishe collects evidence quietly, then stops being quiet. An audition for a music scholarship becomes the one thing that could let her stay — and everything converges before the final credits.
The four episodes adapt Deborah Feldman's memoir and stay close to its restraint. Haas carries the whole series on what her face doesn't do. Stream Unorthodox Season 1 online on iFILM.
