Season 1
Drawn together. Driven apart.
Synopsis
Normal People (2020), Season 1 — 12 episodes of Irish literary drama you can watch online on iFILM. Based on Sally Rooney's novel, directed by Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald for BBC Three and Hulu.
Connell is popular, athletic, liked by everyone in their small Sligo town. Marianne is the opposite — isolated, sharp, uninterested in fitting in. Their relationship starts in secret because he won't acknowledge it at school, and that choice costs them both. In Dublin at Trinity College the balance flips: she finds her footing, he loses his. They separate, find each other again, break apart over a misunderstanding neither can say out loud. A tragedy tips Connell into depression; Marianne, in her own difficult situation abroad, stays his lifeline across the distance. By the season's final episode Connell receives an offer to study in New York, and neither of them knows what comes next.
Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones carry twelve episodes of quiet devastation — the best screen pair of their generation. Stream Normal People Season 1 online on iFILM.
