Synopsis
The Color of Friendship (2000) is a Disney Channel TV film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kevin Hooks and based on a true story. Mahree Bok is a white South African teenager whose father — a policeman — cheered when Steve Biko was arrested. She arrives in Washington DC for a student exchange expecting to stay with a white family. The family she gets is Black.
Her host is Congressman Ron Dellums. His daughter Piper (Shadia Simmons) is not pleased. Carl Lumbly and Penny Johnson play Piper's parents with a quiet authority that grounds the film. The two girls begin in mutual discomfort and slowly, reluctantly, figure each other out — not through grand speeches, but through weeks of shared domestic life.
