Synopsis
Wild Orchid (1989) is an erotic drama directed by Zalman King that you can watch online on iFILM. Young attorney Emily flies into Rio de Janeiro to close a real-estate deal and lands straight in the middle of carnival.
That's where she meets James Wheeler — Mickey Rourke, coiled and unhurried, a self-made millionaire who seems to operate by a set of rules no one else has read. He doesn't pursue Emily so much as arrange the conditions for things to happen, then step back and observe. Carré Otis plays a woman whose composure turns out to be thinner than advertised, while Jacqueline Bisset rounds out the cast in a key supporting role.
King built his career around sensual drama — he'd later direct Red Shoe Diaries and develop the cable series Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries. Wild Orchid became one of his most-talked-about films, partly for the chemistry between its two leads and partly because the line between performance and reality seemed genuinely blurred.
