Synopsis

Picked up by police after she torches an abandoned farmhouse, young Kristen lands inside the North Bend Psychiatric Hospital. The place runs on cold routine, an unreadable doctor played by Jared Harris, and a secret nobody will name. Once the dark sets in, the girls start vanishing one by one. Kristen hears movement where there should be none and realizes she has to break out before whatever it is reaches her. Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker and a very early Sydney Sweeney round out the ward.
This was Carpenter's first feature in nine years, the master of horror going back to basics: a haunted-house chiller built on suspense rather than gore, with a final twist that recasts everything before it. Stream The Ward (2010) online on iFILM.
