Season 2 of Wallander (2010) — watch online on iFILM, three new cases for Inspector Kurt Wallander in and around Ystad.
The opening episode is the bleakest the show had produced: an elderly couple butchered in an isolated farmhouse with no apparent motive. "Faceless Killers" earns its name. Then Wallander shoots someone in the line of duty and spends most of the second episode deciding whether to hand in his badge; a friend's suspicious death pulls him back before he can walk away. The third case starts with a birdwatcher impaled on sharpened bamboo poles — Wallander works out quickly that someone with a method has been doing this before.
If the first season introduced Wallander as a detective who gets worn down, Season 2 of the BBC series is where that wear starts to show permanently. Kenneth Branagh is at his best when the character is at his worst. Stream Wallander Season 2 online on iFILM.
