The Peripheral (2022), Season 1 — eight episodes of Amazon sci-fi you can watch online on iFILM. Flynne Fisher (Chloë Grace Moretz) is stuck in rural Appalachia: no prospects, a sick mother, and a veteran brother named Burton who brings home a headset one day for what looks like a game beta test.
It is not a game. The headset drops Flynne into London seventy years forward, where the body she controls is a peripheral device — a shell that others can operate. The people on the future end want something from her. Back in Clanton, hired guns raid the family home, Burton calls in his old Marine unit, and Flynne has to figure out who in both timelines is worth trusting. Inspector Lowbeer eventually steps into the 2099 thread and shifts the weight of everything.
The show is adapted from William Gibson's novel — the writer who put the word "cyberspace" in the language.
