Sunny is no longer a Clipper. He is a prisoner in the Bordeaux mines, shackled to Bajie — a loud, unreliable drunk who turns out to know uncomfortable truths about Sunny's past. M.K. sits far away in a monastery, where the Master is teaching him, with limited success, to channel his dark gift rather than be consumed by it. Back in the Badlands, the Widow is fighting for a seat at the Barons' table, Quinn is still breathing against all expectation, and Baron Chau is watching for an opening.
