Synopsis
Watch North Dallas Forty (1979) online on iFILM — a sports drama directed by Ted Kotcheff that removes every last coat of gloss from professional football. Nick Nolte plays wide receiver Phillip Elliott, a man running on painkillers and declining leverage.
Elliott is essential on the field and disposable off it. The team medicates his injuries just enough to get him through Sunday, nothing more. Mac Davis plays his teammate Joe Bob — his opposite in personality, not in damage sustained — while Charles Durning and Dabney Coleman embody a front office that speaks fluently about loyalty and abandons it the moment it costs something. Elliott's relationship with Charlotte (Dayle Haddon) is one of the few things not yet franchise property, and the pressure on that is rising too.
Loosely drawn from the Dallas Cowboys of the early 1970s, the film is more pointed satire than its sports-drama label suggests. Stream North Dallas Forty online on iFILM.
