Synopsis
The In-Laws (1979) is Arthur Hiller's screwball crime comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Sheldon Kornpett, a mild Manhattan dentist, is about to marry off his daughter when he meets the groom's father — and his quiet life ends right there.
Vince Ricardo talks a mile a minute, claims to work for the CIA, and asks Sheldon for one small favor: carry a satchel out of his office. The bag turns out to hold stolen engraving plates for printing U.S. currency. From there the panicked dentist gets yanked through car chases, gunfire, and a flight to a banana republic ruled by a deranged general. Peter Falk plays the unflappable con man, Alan Arkin the sweating everyman, and their mismatched rhythm is the whole engine.
Andrew Bergman's script took a simple idea — two soon-to-be relatives who can't stand each other — and built the template every odd-couple caper has copied since. The "Serpentine!" dodge under fire became a quoted bit for generations. If you prefer dry wit and real chemistry over loud gags, clear your evening. Stream The In-Laws (1979) online on iFILM.
