Synopsis

Heartland (2007), Season 1 — watch online on iFILM, all 13 episodes of the family drama that launched the longest-running scripted series on Canadian TV. It begins on the Flemings' ranch in the Alberta foothills, a refuge for horses that have been hurt or given up on.

The pilot opens in grief: sisters Amy and Lou have just lost their mother, and grandfather Jack is holding a property the bank is ready to foreclose. A new ranch hand, Ty Borden, arrives with baggage of his own and slowly earns a place at the table. Amy turns out to have her mother's gift for horses no one else can reach — a skittish mare named Promise, a broken-down racehorse called Gallant Prince. Around the rehab work there are debts to pay, first crushes, sibling rivalry when their father turns up, and a barn fire that nearly costs Jack everything.

Based on Lauren Brooke's novels, this first season sets the show's whole register: slow, warm, low on melodrama, easy to put on for a long quiet evening. It's built for viewers who like horses, big families, and small-town life. Stream Heartland Season 1 online on iFILM.
