Synopsis

Children start vanishing from the city — Roger, Lyra's closest friend, among them. The trail runs through the glittering social world of Mrs. Coulter, a charming woman whose ambitions reach far deeper than she admits, and north to a secret Magisterium facility called Bolvangar, where experiments on children and their daemons are conducted in the name of Dust research. Along the way Lyra gathers allies: Gyptian leader Ma Costa, Texan aeronaut Lee Scoresby, and the armoured bear Iorek Byrnison.
Jack Thorne's adaptation keeps Philip Pullman's theological edge intact — the Magisterium as an institution of control, adults with complicated loyalties, a child who trusts her instincts before anyone else.
