Synopsis
Studio 666 (2022) is a horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM, starring the members of Foo Fighters as exaggerated versions of themselves. Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee rent a sprawling Encino mansion to record their tenth album. The previous tenant was also a musician. Things did not go well for him.
The house has history. Grohl starts hearing things, disappearing at night, behaving in ways that concern both the band and the neighbours. Director BJ McDonnell shoots it as a genuine splatter film — there is real commitment to the gore — while the comedy comes from watching rock stars play dumber, louder versions of the personalities their fans already know. Whitney Cummings, Jenna Ortega and Will Forte show up in supporting roles, and John Carpenter appears in a cameo that lands exactly as well as you would want it to.
This is unapologetic B-movie territory, and the film knows it. The fun is in how far Grohl and the band are willing to go — and they go further than most musicians would. For anyone who has followed Foo Fighters for any length of time, the in-jokes hit harder. Stream Studio 666 online on iFILM.
