Synopsis
Abbott Elementary (2021) is a mockumentary workplace comedy on ABC — watch it online on iFILM. Creator and star Quinta Brunson built the show around a Philadelphia public school that is perpetually underfunded, perpetually chaotic, and somehow still standing.
Young teacher Janine Teagues throws herself into every problem with the kind of optimism that should be annoying but somehow isn't. Her colleagues range from the deeply wise Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph, who picked up an Emmy for the role) to a principal who genuinely believes he is excellent at his job. The mock-doc format keeps things honest — confessionals, handheld camera, the occasional silent stare into the lens.
