Synopsis
Knights of the Round Table (1953) is Richard Thorpe's Arthurian adventure, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It's a big MGM retelling of the King Arthur legend — Camelot, the sword in the stone, and the round table where every knight sits as an equal. Robert Taylor plays Lancelot, Ava Gardner is Guinevere, and Mel Ferrer takes the crown as Arthur.
Lancelot rides into court and quickly becomes the finest blade in Camelot. The trouble is that he falls for Queen Guinevere, a love neither of them can speak aloud or shake off. While the knights ride out in search of the Holy Grail, the scheming Mordred rots the kingdom from within, and Lancelot must give up both Camelot and the woman he loves rather than bring Arthur's whole order crashing down.
The scale is the draw: real British castles, jousts, sieges and hundreds of extras in armor. This was MGM's very first picture shot in widescreen CinemaScope, and that sense of spectacle still lands.
