Bill Hayward walks out of prison after eight years and finds his two young sons alone in a London flat — their mother is long gone. Fourteen-year-old Dean has been running the household himself, keeping his younger brother fed and the social workers at bay. When authorities learn the father is back, they set a one-week clock: stay and prove the family can function, or the boys go into care. Bill's instinct is to bolt. Neither son is counting on him to do otherwise.

Fletcher strips out any sentimentality. This is a film about a man facing a choice that carries real weight, told in short sharp scenes with no easy exits.
