Synopsis
Grease Live (2016) — watch online on iFILM. Directors Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski staged this Fox television event in front of a live studio audience on a single January night, with no safety net and multiple sets running simultaneously. Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit take on Sandy and Danny, while Vanessa Hudgens, Keke Palmer, and Carly Rae Jepsen bring their own energy to the Rydell ensemble.
After a summer romance, Sandy transfers to Rydell High and lands straight in the middle of a turf war between Danny's greaser gang and Rizzo's Pink Ladies. The live format is felt in every scene cut — cameras dash between outdoor sets and gymnasium stages in real time, which gives the whole thing a tension the 1978 film never had.
