Sneakerella

Sneakerella (2022) is a Disney+ musical you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum. It is a Cinderella retelling transplanted into New York's sneaker subculture: El (Chosen Jacobs), an aspiring shoe designer from Queens, works retail in the store his late mother once owned, keeping his sketchbooks hidden from an overbearing stepfather and two stepbrothers who shut down every opportunity that comes his way.

Things shift when El crosses paths with Kira King (Lexi Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of basketball legend and sneaker mogul Darius King. A shared obsession with kicks turns into something bigger, with a nudge from El's best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic thrown in. The musical numbers draw from street dance and battle culture rather than Broadway staging, which gives the whole film a different pulse.

Disney does not often make musicals built around a predominantly Black cast with a contemporary soundtrack — that alone sets Sneakerella apart.
