Synopsis
God's Creatures (2022) is an A24 drama you can watch online on iFILM. It unfolds in a windswept fishing village on Ireland's west coast, the kind of place where everyone has known everyone since birth. Emily Watson plays Aileen, a mother who tells one small lie to shield her son — and watches it tear slowly through her family and the whole tight-knit community.
Her son Brian, played by Paul Mescal, comes home after years away in Australia. His mother is overjoyed, his father stays guarded, the village folds him back in. Then a longtime family friend levels a grave accusation against him, and Aileen makes her choice before she has time to weigh it. From there the film tightens the knot patiently: every dawn out on the water, every neighbor's glance, every shared supper becomes a test of how far a mother's love will bend.
Directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer shoot it spare and damp — salt air, grey sea, faces held in close-up. Watson carries whole scenes wordlessly, working through her eyes alone. It's a heavy, hushed film for anyone who loves moral dramas that refuse easy answers. Stream God's Creatures (2022) online on iFILM.
