16+Season 1
Love in the darkest of places.
Synopsis
The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2024), Season 1 — a six-episode war drama you can watch online on iFILM. Based on the true story of Lali Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew brought to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942 and assigned to tattoo identification numbers onto the arms of incoming prisoners.
The series runs across two time frames. In the present, an older Lali (Harvey Keitel) tells his story to writer Heather; in the flashbacks, Jonah Hauer-King plays Lali at the height of the war. The job of tattooist brought thin privileges and a cost that compounded: visibility, proximity to the SS, and the weight of marking people he could not save. Meeting prisoner Gita (Anna Próchniak, prisoner 4562) changes the shape of survival — it stops being a solitary problem. He runs medicine through smuggling chains, takes torture rather than name his contacts, and she finds ways to fight back for him. The final episode scatters them both across the chaos of liberation.
