About

Synopsis

Robert Mitchum as Philip Marlowe: Farewell, My Lovely (1975) is the Raymond Chandler adaptation you can watch online on iFILM. Dick Richards directed; John Alonzo shot it in amber tones that suit the 1940s Los Angeles setting exactly right.

Two cases land on Marlowe's desk almost simultaneously. Giant ex-convict Moose Malloy wants to find the lounge singer who vanished while he was doing time. A stolen jade necklace pulls the detective toward a wealthy client's murky household — and toward Helen Grayle, played by Charlotte Rampling with the composed menace the genre demands. The cases converge slowly and with body count. A young Sylvester Stallone turns up in one of the supporting roles.

Richards doesn't try to update Chandler — he shoots it straight, period-correct, trusting the material to do the work. That turned out to be the right call. Stream Farewell, My Lovely (1975) online on iFILM.
