Synopsis
Essential Killing (2010) is Jerzy Skolimowski's stripped-down survival thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. A captured fighter named Mohammed is being moved from Afghanistan to a secret European prison when the convoy crashes, leaving him alone in a frozen forest.
What follows is almost wordless. He runs, scavenges, and kills not out of hatred but to buy himself another hour, while a military that officially doesn't exist closes in. Vincent Gallo carries the whole film on instinct alone, without a single line of dialogue — every breath and flinch does the work. Emmanuelle Seigner turns up late as a rare flicker of mercy.
Skolimowski cares less about politics than about raw endurance, letting you decide whether you're watching an enemy or a hunted man. The film took the Special Jury Prize at Venice, and Gallo claimed the Volpi Cup for Best Actor. Stream Essential Killing online on iFILM.
