Synopsis
Count Dracula (1970) is Jess Franco's horror film, ready to watch online on iFILM. A European take on Bram Stoker's novel, it set out to put the real Dracula back on screen — a white-haired old man who grows younger with every mouthful of fresh blood.
May 1897. London clerk Jonathan Harker travels to a Transylvanian castle to close a property sale for the count, only to find himself trapped behind its walls. Soon Dracula's shadow reaches England and the women and friends Harker left behind. Christopher Lee plays the count and, for once, sticks close to the page: moustached and aged in the early scenes. Klaus Kinski is a wordless, fly-eating Renfield, and Herbert Lom turns Professor Van Helsing into a determined hunter.
Franco worked on a shoestring, so in place of spectacle there's a slow, dreamlike Gothic mood that keeps drawing fans back. For lovers of vintage horror and anyone collecting screen versions of the count, this one is worth a look precisely for how literally it tries to follow the book.
