Synopsis
Next Stop Wonderland (1998) is an American romantic comedy by Brad Anderson that you can watch online on iFILM. Erin, a Boston nurse, has just been dumped by her deadbeat boyfriend and left with nothing but his cat and a fresh case of cynicism about love.
Then her overbearing mother takes matters into her own hands and, without asking, places a personal ad on Erin's behalf in the local paper. A parade of suitors follows, and every date plays out as its own small disaster, each more awkward than the last. Across the same city wanders Alan, an ex-plumber chasing a new career and stumbling into trouble at every turn. The two seem made for each other — yet their paths keep crossing by inches and missing, again and again, on the same subway line.
Brad Anderson's debut feature made a splash at Sundance, carried by a dreamy Brazilian bossa nova soundtrack and Hope Davis's quiet, deadpan charm. A young Philip Seymour Hoffman turns up in an early role. It's a low-key romance about how hard it is to actually meet the right person in a crowded city.
