Synopsis
The Last Days of Disco (1998) is Whit Stillman's razor-sharp comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Manhattan, early 1980s: disco is still pounding in the city's most exclusive clubs, but everyone can feel it winding down. Two recent college graduates, Alice and Charlotte, talk their way past the velvet rope and into a world where the right look and the right connections matter more than anything they learned at school.
Chloë Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale play women who are searching for something they can't quite name — not romance exactly, but footing. Around them swirls a crowd of ambitious young professionals, hopeless romantics, and habitual dancers: Chris Eigeman, Robert Sean Leonard, and Mackenzie Astin among them. Stillman's characters talk constantly and brilliantly, using nightclub small talk to work through careers, love, and what kind of people they want to be.
The third film in Stillman's loosely connected "Doomed Bourgeois in Love" trilogy, this is less a period piece about disco than a portrait of a generation that had big ideas and a shrinking window to act on them. The tagline says it: history is made at night. Stream The Last Days of Disco online on iFILM.
