Synopsis
"How to Make an American Quilt" (1995) is a US drama directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse that you can watch online on iFILM. Winona Ryder plays Finn, a Berkeley graduate student who has just been proposed to and can't decide what she thinks.
She spends the summer with her grandmother and great-aunt in a small California town. The women belong to a quilting circle, and the members — Anne Bancroft, Ellen Burstyn, Maya Angelou, and Alfre Woodard — tell stories over their needlework: marriages that held and ones that didn't, loves that went wrong, choices that couldn't be undone. Finn listens, and slowly figures out what she wants.
Based on Whitney Otto's 1991 novel, the film is built like the quilt itself — separate pieces from different lives that only fit together once you step back. Jared Leto and Claire Danes appear in early roles. Stream "How to Make an American Quilt" (1995) online on iFILM.
