Heroic

Heroic (Heroico, 2023) is a Mexican military drama directed by David Zonana — watch online on iFILM for one of the sharper institutional portraits in recent Latin American cinema. Luis, an 18-year-old from an indigenous background played by Santiago Sandoval, enlists at the Heroic Military College with a straightforward goal: a better life than the one he's leaving. From the inside it looks different. The hazing isn't random; it's the curriculum. Violence passes down the chain of command the way any other lesson does, and Luis quickly discovers that survival here means learning to inflict as much as absorb. Zonana shoots with a stripped-down, observational camera that refuses to editorialize — the film trusts the audience to see what the institution is doing without being told how to feel about it.
