Synopsis
Good Vibrations (2012) is a music drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn, it tells the true story of Terri Hooley, the half-blind Belfast DJ and oddball who opened a punk record shop in the middle of a war. Richard Dormer carries the lead.
It's the 1970s, Northern Ireland is split down the middle, and patrols and bombs are part of the daily walk. Hooley's mates pick up guns on both sides of the divide, while he does the most stubborn thing imaginable: opens the Good Vibrations shop on bombed-out Great Victoria Street. From there he finds raw young bands like The Undertones, Rudi and The Outcasts and starts his own label, ignoring both the money and the risk to his neck.
At the heart of it is The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks," the single that radio legend John Peel loved so much he played it twice in a row and asked to have its words on his gravestone. The film is about music outrunning politics, and about a man who never made a penny but gave a torn city a reason to stay sane. Warm, funny and loud, it's a treat for punk fans and lovers of true stories. Stream Good Vibrations (2012) online on iFILM.
