Seconds
Who are SECONDS? The answer is almost too terrifying for words!
Synopsis
Seconds (1966) is John Frankenheimer's psychological thriller — watch online on iFILM, starring Rock Hudson in the most unsettling performance of his career, shot by cinematographer James Wong Howe.
A middle-aged banker named Arthur Hamilton has everything arranged correctly and feels nothing. A secretive corporation reaches him with an offer: fake your death, take a new face, move somewhere warm, and start over. He becomes Tony Wilson — younger, better-looking, living near the California coast with a ready-made social life. For a while it almost works.
But you can't buy appetite you never had. Frankenheimer and Howe shot the film on wide-angle lenses that warp faces and swell corridors, giving every scene the texture of a bad dream trying to pass for ordinary life. Howe's work earned him an Oscar nomination. The film was booed at Cannes in 1966 and is now regarded as one of American cinema's bleakest parables about identity and the cost of reinvention.
