Synopsis
House of Voices (Saint Ange, 2004) is a French atmospheric horror film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Pascal Laugier — the filmmaker who would later make Martyrs. Shot on location in the French Alps, it unfolds inside a mountain orphanage emptied of its children in the autumn of 1958.
Anna arrives to clean the abandoned rooms and finds she is not quite alone. At night, footsteps move through locked corridors; something breathes in the dark. The only person left behind is Judith, a girl whose mind holds memories she cannot fully articulate — or that no one wants to believe. Virginie Ledoyen and Lou Doillon carry the film almost entirely through silence and physical unease; Laugier builds dread from long hallways and the particular stillness of a building that has not forgotten what happened in it. For viewers who prefer sustained creeping tension over jump cuts, this one holds up.
