Synopsis
The Wood (1999) is Rick Famuyiwa's coming-of-age comedy, free to watch online on iFILM. Three hours before the wedding, groom Roland turns up dead drunk in a stranger's bed, and his two best friends have to sober him up in time.
While Mike and Slim drag him toward the altar, the film keeps slipping back to mid-'80s Inglewood — a middle-class Black neighborhood where the three grew up chasing first crushes, dodging fights and building a friendship that outlasts everything. Omar Epps, Taye Diggs and Richard T. Jones play the grown men; Sean Nelson and the younger cast handle the flashbacks. Sanaa Lathan is the girl Mike never quite gets over.
Famuyiwa's directing debut trades the raunchy bachelor-party setup for something warmer: this is about loyalty and growing up, not the hangover. An easy weekend watch if Barbershop or Brown Sugar are your speed. Stream The Wood (1999) online on iFILM.
