The fifth season opens with a man thawed out of a block of ice who turns out to be Gran's old flame — which explains nothing and complicates everything. Eep arranges a three-person hunting trip hoping Grug and Guy will finally bond; her plan misreads both of them. Ugga takes on Hope in a cooking contest and quickly discovers she is out of her depth. Grug saves Hope's life on a dangerous harvest run, and Hope immediately sets about returning the favour in the most inconvenient way possible. Dawn gets one chance to prove she can be trusted with Hope's favourite bracelet. Season five is the warmest stretch of episodes so far — less turf war, more actual family.
