Pedro Pascal plays a hitman who's spent two decades doing the dirty work for a crime boss and now wants out — which goes about as badly as expected. Dominic Thorne and a partner step into a rap battle that carries more on the line than just a crowd's applause. Elsewhere, a pack of local punks squared off against a Nazi skinhead crew, and the outcome surprised everyone. Jay Ellis brings NBA All-Star energy to a fourth story that starts in triumph and lands somewhere harder. Ben Mendelsohn shows up. So do Too $hort, Tom Hanks, and Oakland legend Eric "Sleepy" Floyd.

Boden and Fleck built the film as a love letter to a specific time and place — Bay Area hip-hop, hardcore, and street basketball as they collided in the same summer. The anthology structure is loose and fun, and the film doesn't take itself too seriously, which is exactly why it works.
