Synopsis
Box of Moonlight (1996) is available to watch online on iFILM — a quiet comedy-drama from director Tom DiCillo. John Turturro plays Al Fountain, a middle-aged electrical engineer whose construction job wraps ahead of schedule. Instead of flying straight home, he rents a car and heads out alone to find a lake he vaguely remembers from childhood.
He finds Kid instead. Sam Rockwell, in one of his earlier screen appearances, plays a young man living out of a van in the woods, wearing a Davy Crockett costume and operating entirely outside adult expectations. Their dynamic drives the film: Al's rigid schedules against Kid's recklessness, each slowly shifting the other.
Catherine Keener rounds out the cast. DiCillo keeps the story unhurried and unplotted in a way that either clicks or doesn't — it's very much a '90s American indie in its bones. Stream Box of Moonlight online on iFILM.
