Synopsis
Samurai Marathon (サムライマラソン, 2019) is a Japanese-British historical action film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Bernard Rose adapted Akira Gomi's novel about a real footrace in Edo-period Japan that nearly became a massacre. Takeru Satoh and Nana Komatsu lead the cast.
Feudal lord Itakura orders his samurai to complete a 58-kilometre mountain trail run — a readiness test ahead of a feared foreign invasion. His headstrong daughter Yuki secretly joins the field. Back in Edo, officials misread the event as an act of rebellion and dispatch assassins. The only man who knows the truth is spy Jinnai Karasawa, played by Shōta Sometani, and he has hours to outrun the killers. Danny Huston plays an American envoy.
What the film refuses to do is collapse into a solo-hero swordfight. The tension lives in the race itself — who keeps running, who drops, and whether Jinnai arrives first. Stream Samurai Marathon online on iFILM.
