About

Synopsis

Hearts Beat Loud (2018) is a music drama directed by Brett Haley — watch it online on iFILM. Nick Offerman plays Frank, a single dad in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighbourhood who runs a small vinyl record store. The store is closing. His daughter Sam is headed to pre-med in Los Angeles.

Before she leaves, Frank convinces Sam to upload one of their jam-session recordings. The track picks up listeners overnight, and Frank starts talking about a real father-daughter band. Sam, played by Kiersey Clemons, keeps one foot out the door: she has school, a first romance, and a future that doesn't fit inside a basement studio. Blythe Danner and Toni Collette round out the cast.

This is less a film about music and more one about what it costs to let go. Haley keeps the drama low and the warmth high, and Offerman earns every quiet scene. The film works precisely because it never oversells the sentiment. Stream Hearts Beat Loud (2018) on iFILM.
