Synopsis
Iron Jawed Angels (2004) is an HBO historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Hilary Swank plays Alice Paul, the young firebrand who pushed American women toward the ballot box in the 1910s. Katja von Garnier directs.
Paul and her ally Lucy Burns break away from the cautious old guard of the suffrage cause and try something the country hadn't seen — picketing the gates of the White House itself. The government answers with arrests, prison and force-feeding through a tube once the jailed women launch a hunger strike. The supporting roster is deep: Vera Farmiga, Anjelica Huston, Frances O'Connor and Patrick Dempsey all turn up.
The film deliberately cracks the period-drama mold, using a modern soundtrack, restless editing and plain-spoken dialogue — less a museum portrait than a story about young people gambling their freedom. Swank's turn as Paul drew a Golden Globe nomination. A solid pick if you're drawn to dramas about what civil rights actually cost. Stream Iron Jawed Angels (2004) online on iFILM.
