Mulberry Street

Mulberry Street (2006) is an indie horror film you can watch online on iFILM. For Clutch, a downtown boxer and vet, the day looks good: his daughter Casey is coming home for the first time since her tour in Iraq. He chats with neighbors about the building they're all being evicted from, flirts with a single mom, just an ordinary Manhattan afternoon — and then a rat-borne infection tears through the city.

The bites turn people into bloodthirsty rat-like creatures hungry for human flesh. The authorities slam a quarantine over Manhattan, cutting the island off from everything else. Six tenants who were about to lose their apartments now barricade the doors and try to make it through one night, while Casey fights her way across streets crawling with the infected to reach her father.

This is director Jim Mickle's debut, shot on almost no money but with a real claustrophobic grip; co-writer Nick Damici takes the lead. Grimy, jittery urban horror for people who want the honest low-budget kind, not a polished blockbuster. Stream Mulberry Street (2006) online on iFILM.
